You don’t have a soul. You are a Soul. You have a body. ~ C.S. Lewis

Jin Shin Jyutsu

Jin Shin Jyutsu is the “art of living,” according to Mary Burmeister, who brought and organized this ancient healing practice from Japan to USA. Literally defined, Jin Shin Jyutsu is the Art of the Creator expressed through knowing and compassionate man.

It is a physio-philosophy that involves the application of the hands for gently balancing the flow of life energy in the body; more generally, it is the awakening to awareness of complete harmony within the self and the universe.

Jin Shin Jyutsu is not massage or physical manipulation of tissue and uses only minimal pressure. Though there are sets of instructions for moving the energy, it is not a technique, but more of an art, a skillful creation between the practitioner and the patient’s innate healing forces. The practitioner’s hands are used as “jumper cables,” contacting 26 “safety energy locks” to redirect, or unblock the flow of energy along its pathways. With the use of one or more “flows,” energy is stimulated to circulate properly along these pathways. There are many such pathways in the body, each with a distinct function or essence. By connecting to the infinite supply of universal energy, the practitioner triggers and assists in the patient’s self-healing. As energy does not diminish, but only changes forms, the dis-eased energy is gently converted into eased energy again.

A typical Jin Shin Jyutsu session can last from 20 minutes(for children) to one hour. The patient remains clothed and lies face-up in a quiet environment. After listening to the patient’s pulses, the practitioner employs a harmonizing sequence to unblock particular pathways and restore the energy to the energy rhythm of the universe.

The experience of Jin Shin Jyutsu is unique to each person for each session. However, the most common effect is that of deep relaxation, and, often, after a few sessions, profound healing.
